Can A Person Who Is Brain Dead On A Machine Still Have Body Functions?

My 3 year old cousin has just been pronounced brain dead.yesterday my aunt told me that when she was talking to her after her surgery she moved her hand and opened her eyes.my question is can a person who is brain dead and on a machine still have body functions or could it have been the machine that made those functions move?
