Hi,

BP levels of systolic >130 and diastolic >80 are considered hypertensive according to American Heart Association. A reading of 156/96, is definitely high and needs medical intervention. A reading of 156/96, even if once a while, cannot be accepted as normal. In such cases, you are required to be vigilant about your life style- particularly taking a low fat diet, proper sleep and regular exercise along with a consistent monitoring of your BP time to time and medical timely intervention, if needed.

I fail to understand, why you are trying to wean off the BP medicines, when you are still hypertensive. Also, for maintenance of your health, it is always recommended, that you reduce / increase your dose of anti-hypertensive drugs or completely weaned off the BP drugs, strictly under guidance of your doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
