Can A Pill Be Taken To Ease Heavy Period Flow?

Hi i am on the coil at the moment and have been for nearly a year my periods have been really heavy and irregular since having it in, i have made an appointment with my GP for next wednesday but i have a wedsing to go to this week and i'm wondering if it would be ok to take some of my old pill to ease my periods because they are so heavy?
