Can A Polyp In The Uterus Cause Bleeding?

Hi, my HCG level is 40,000, however I am bleeding like a period. I had an ultrasound today, the technician said that there was what looked like a polyp in my uterus but it could also be my period and no fetus. What could this be? I'm a little concerned. Thank you!
