Can A Spot Above My Left Elbow Indicate An Ingrown Hair?

Hi! If it s not too much trouble, I have a small inquiry I would like to make. It s nothing serious I m sure, but I have a spot just above my left elbow that is about the size of the tip of a Sharpie. It s almost like a pimple, but at the same time, it s not. I removed what seems to be the core from it attached to what looked almost like a hair or something of the sort. The only problem is, it keeps coming back and never really heals. I was told it was just an ingrown hair and that it would be annoying, but I didn t have anything to worry about. I m just looking for confirmation I guess? It doesn t really ever hurt or anything, but I would really like to know if this IS just an ingrown hair and/or if I should bandage it so that there isn t an open sore on my arm. Thanks!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your thoughtful history and query about the recurrent small lesion above left elbow.
Since there is recurrence even after removing the inide part the possible diagnosis is as follows:
There is a cyst and you are removing only the part that is dead, the growing part needs to be removed properly.
Possibility of skin cancer has to be removed.
Some lesions like keratinizing papilloma can present in the same way.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Consult a Dermatologist or a General Surgeon for clinical evaluation.
Small surgery to remove the mass and send it for histopathology to confirm what it is will relieve you of all the tensions, the disease too.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
