Can A Tight Cervix Cause Infertility?

What are the causes and of a tight cervix? I recently had an IVF embryo transfer and the doctor had a lot of trouble getting through my tight cervix. Just last week I had a D & C. The specialist said my cervix was very tight. He said he stretched my cervix and hopefully my next transfer will be a lot easier. I was just wondering what causes a tight cervix? I am 38 and have not had a pregnancy. I was married and never fell pregnant. Could a tight cervix be the cause of infertility? I have been single now for over 5 years and am not sexually active. Is this why my cervix is so tight? I have decided to use a sperm donor and be a mum all on my own.

Hello,

You may be having a condition called tight internal oss. It can cause infertility and more importantly it may cause trouble during vaginal delivery.

You can opt for cervical dilations using Hegar dilators after consulting a gynaecologist. othing much to worry as it is an easily treatable condition.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family physician
