Can Advanced Metastatic Breast Cancer Be Related To Increased Cough?

Hi, my Mom has advanced metastatic breast cancer. she has a permanent peritoneal drain to remove ascites fluid at home (placed 12/28/10). She has a very large tumor burden and has been on hospice since shortly after getting the drain. This past week, she's developed petechia on her calves and stomach..... she's been having increased coughing due to the fluid....but that shouldn't cause the petechia on her legs? I guess I'm thinking her platelets are low? do you think this is the beginning of the end?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Cough may be due to spread of cancer to the lungs or some infection but, unfortunately, we have reached near end point.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
