Can Air Travel Cause Placenta To Reach Near Cervix Leading To Bleeding During Early Pregnancy?
HI, I travelled to Mexico and experienced some bleeding on my second day there. I was 15 weeks, I had an ultrasound that shown that my placenta was too close to the cervix, did the air travel caused this? Also I had an ultrasound done at 12.2 weeks and my placenta was right where it was supposed to be. I would love to know if air travel put me more at risk on my way back, and why? Thank you very much
Hi, Thanks for the query. Traveling by air may not be responsible for migration of placenta. Usually in early weeks because of smaller size of placenta and small gestational sac, it is difficult to define the exact position. With progression of the pregnancy, the size of the placenta will increase and may occupy the lower uterine segment. But usually we can call a placenta to be low lying, only after 20 weeks. With progression of gestational age, the placenta can migrate upwards because usually the growth of the upper part of the vagina will be more than lower part. So, now with your doctor's advice go for progesterone pills and injection. This can help in preventing spotting in next journey. After going to your place, repeat ultrasound after 3 to 4 weeks. Take care.
