Can Alcoholism Cause Sudden Onset Of Pinpoint Pupils And Nose Bleed?
my boyfriend a very active alcoholic, with 8 years clean started drinking heavily on January 2014. I did everything I could to stop him. On April 25, he died at 53. I was detoxing him, he had been sober last drink on Thursday prior. He on that Saturday night at around 8 pm started seeing fire and flashing red lights. was very panicky but I had him sober. I got him in bed I went to my side, he sat up slid to the floor. I came around, his eyes were fixed pupils pinpoint, I started cpr, my first compression all this blood came out of his nostril and some brownish blood came out of his mouth. What do you think happened?
It is likely that he had esophageal varices (dilations of veins in the food pipe). These are common in alcoholics. These can rupture at times and cause severe bleeding. The blood would come out of his mouth and nose.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan, General & Family Physician
