Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My platelet count has been ranging from the 500 s down to 454 last month. I found out recently this has been going on for 5 yrs. Iron levels are normal so no anemia. I am plagued with allergies yr. around if this can make a difference. Why the changes?
High platelets count is called (thrombocytosis) and generally it isn't related to any allergy. Thrombocytosis might be related to many problems such as chronic infections, anemia, rheumatoid arthritis, sarcoidosis,or it might be essential when the cause is unclear.
It is very important to search for the cause, because treatment depends on it.So you should perform tests to diagnose any chronic infection or inflammatory disease.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Suela Gjata,
General & Family Physician
