Can An E. Coli Infection Cause Irregular And Lighter Periods, And Will They Return To Normal After Completing A Course Of Ciprofloxacin?
Hi, My period has been irregular. It became lighter by almost two days (it used to be three days, now its barely two). I went to the hospital, and I did a couple of tests including a HVS. They told me I had e coli growth in the swab they took. I m curious to know if there s any link with this infection, to my irregular and lighter period and if my periods will return to normal when i finish the course of antibiotics i was given (Ciprofloxacin)
E. coli Is normally an intestinal infection, which is usually harmless or produces mild symptoms and usually need no specific treatment except general hygienic measures and adequate hydration. However, if there is urinary infection due to E.coli, a course of antibiotic is needed, as may be in your case. Still, there is no known link of this infection on the periods of a woman.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
