Can An Adult With Down S Syndrome Live Independently?

Can Adults with Down Syndrome live independent of any other help? We are struggling to convince our 41yr old that has been in the care of others all of her life that she cannot live alone. (pay bills w/o being able to read, write, or count to 100) please give us a reference or any suggestion to help us explain, thank you

Thanks for writing in.

Studies have shown that adults with Down's syndrome are now leaving home, living independently with varying degrees of support, holding down jobs, forming relationships and generally getting the most out of life. They need little bit of support, love and care to make them independent. At times they may require the help of friends and family to do complicated tasks.
