Can An Alternative Of Levothyroxine Help In Managing Emotional Outbursts?

My sister in law has hypothyroidism. she takes levothyroxine. Recently her endocrinologist had to increase the medication because it was not enough. When she took the new dosage, she got very emotional. the doctor let her alternate the dosage: one day she takes the regular dosage and the next day she takes the new dosage. This does not help much because on the days of the higher dosage she gets very emotional. She starts crying when she doesn't want to.
Do you think changing to another medicine for hypothyroidism might help?
She told me also that she has Hashimoto.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Please check there are three stages of hashimoto's like hyperthyroidism followed by hypothyroidism then euthyroidism etc. Please check which stage she is. Taking overdose of thyroxine may cause palpitations and sweating etc. It may also due to panic attacks etc. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Please consult your treating doctor and get check for thyroid profile and correct dosage for it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
