Can An Anti-bacterial Medication Be Used Against A Fungal Infection?

Yes. I am interested in the drug Cefuroxime axetil. I have a friend that has been prescribed this for a fungal infection in her lungs. From what I read about this, it appears to be an off label use. I am asking this question instead of her because she has no internet access. Why would an anti-bacterial medication be used against a fungal infection?
