Can An Old Injury Cause Knee Pain With Popping Sounds?

Hi! When I was 12 I hurt my knee. My friend was pushing me on a merry go round and I got dizzy so I put my leg down on the ground to help stop. My leg hit her as I came around and my knee wrapped around the bar. I had a massive amount of swelling for a few weeks. I am now 27 and at times my knee will really bother me. Especially if I am on it for too long during the day or if it's about to storm. I also hear popping sound everytime I bend my leg and straighten it back out. Also when I bend or squat down. What could this mean? Thanks for your help
