Can Ankle Swelling Be Reduced With Increased Metabolism?

My 99 yr old Mother concerned her ankles swelling (retaining Fluid?) and she wonders if she ate 6 smaller meals rather than 3 larger meals if increasing her metabolism will assist the body with this function ie. not retaining as much fluid? Definitely taking a few medications for high blood pressure & diuretic and kidney infection right now.
