Can Antibiotics Be The Cause For Severe Pain?

So 2 weeks ago, I was diagnosed with a UTI, i had extreme back pain, and they did a urine sample. I took the antibiotics for a few days but did not finish the antibiotics. My mother is a nurse and my dad a dentist so I have already heard how important it is to take all your antibiotics. 4 days ago, I started having a burning sensation when I had to pee. It was pretty annoying for a few days but not painful. However when this started, I started retaking the antibiotics along with over the counter AZO, not taking the AZO for more than 2 days. However, now I m in a great deal of pain. I find that the pain comes around bed time. This is the worst night of it. I am not sure what to do

Hello,

I can understand your concern. You are right in the information that you should complete the antibiotic course when you start it for complete elimination of the infection and relief from symptoms. As you stopped the antibiotic in the middle of the course, the infection may have flared up again and the same medicines may not work again and you may have to go for higher antibiotics.

I would advise you to consult your urologist again and go for urine culture to diagnose which bacteria are responsible for the infection and what antibiotics will be effective against them. You can take over the counter painkiller that suits you for control of pain till you get appropriate treatment. In addition, take rest and have lots of water and fluids.

I hope this answer helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Let me know if you have follow up questions.

Best,
