Can Antihistamines Be Taken Along With Azilect?

Hello, I have Parkinson s and am on Mirapex, Azilect, and carbo dopa/levodopa. I was wondering if there is anything I. CAn take for cold symptoms -runny nose, sneezing,etc.). I think most of the Antihistamines should be avoided if on a MAO Inhibitor (Azilect) My email address is bethq 956@hotmail,com

Hi & Welcome.

Antihistamine should not be taken along with Azilect and other prescribed medications for Parkinson's disease.

If taken along with Azilect (Rasagiline) & Mirapex (Pramipexole), antihistamines may increase side effects such as excessive sleepiness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating. They may also cause experience impairment in thinking, judgment, and motor coordination resulting in falls and injuries.

They may also decrease the beneficial effects of Levodopa when taken along with Carbidopa/Levodopa.

So, in view of the above, avoid taking antihistamines while on these medications.

You may use steam inhalation or certain nasal decongestant drops for the relief of cold symptoms.
