Can Appendicitis Cause Fever, Headache, Body Pain And Diarrhea?

On Thursday morning, I woke with a fever, headache and general fatigue and body aches. I am a 59 year old healthy female in excellent shape. By Saturday, I had extremely loose (read liquid) diarrhea and a feeling as if my gut was being squeezed in a giant fist. I have eaten almost nothing in these 4 days, but have had plenty of fluids. My fever is gone, but my stomach continues to hurt and I have zero appetite (I am usually a very hearty eater.) Years ago, my son had undiagnosed appendicitis, but eventually a CAT scan showed he had had his appendix burst almost a week before. For some reason, I feel as if I might have a very mild case of this. Is this possible?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Appendicitis pain is localized in the right lower part of the abdomen. So, there is a very small chance that you might have appendicitis. I suggest to do an abdominal ultrasound to exclude this CAUSE. Meanwhile, I suggest using Tylenol for the fever. I recommend using Imodium to treat the diarrhea and take daily probiotics. I suggest to drink liquids and eat small portions of plain food.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
