My 16 year old son ruptured his eardrum last week Sunday diving. He was brought to his doctor on Monday 9/18 who prescribed him ear drops because there was drainage and blood coming from his ear. It didn t work...by Wednesday he started running a fever, chills, vomiting, lethargic. I called his doctor that afternoon and he prescribed antibiotics. My son is not a 100% but at least moving around a little & can eat a little, the nausea is still there and his ear will not stop bleeding. He says he is not dizzy? and it s not that painful? uncomfortable, but not painful. Is this normal for a ruptured eardrum to bleed this long? today makes 5 days and it seems it s not slowing down?

Can As Ruptured Eardrum Cause Prolonged Bleeding?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. A ruptured eardrum can bleed for some time. You should get your ears examined by an ENT specialist. Avoid any ear drops or earplugs. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Priyanka Aggarwal
