Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
ive had this problem since I was a child seems like autism to me been trying to do research on add and adhd but to me it seems more than that. looking up autism and symptoms and I m sure that s what ive had since a child my parents seen a dr. about it and wanted me on drugs and my parents did not want that at all so my mom grabbed my arm and we left the drs office. as an adult is there anyway I can get tested for it? and maybe be treated for it? only thing I can say is the definition of autism or symptoms is 100% me.
It’s an important one. Like you, many are parents who begin connecting the dots after one of their children is diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.
Evaluating autism in a previously undiagnosed adult can be challenging.
There are no established diagnostic tests for autism in adults. Because of these limitations, the evaluation of an adult has to lean heavily on direct observation.
Currently, there are relatively few clinicians who specialize in evaluating and treating adults with autism. Nor do we have established criteria to objectively judge such qualifications.
In my opinion, your best bet may be a developmental pediatrician, child psychiatrist or pediatric neurologist who is both experienced in evaluating autism in children and open to seeing older patients. Otherwise, I would recommend contacting an established and respected autism center in your area.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Prabhash Verma,
