Can Beer Be Consumed Before Major Surgery For Squamous Cell Carcinoma?

My father-in-law has squamous cell carcinoma and is having major surgery in the morning to have it removed. It will be a very invasive, extensive surgery including replacing part of his jaw with fresh bone from his arm or leg, and grafting new skin to his face from his back. Can he have a few beers tonight, or could this be dangerous?

Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, alcohol may interact with anesthesia medicine and may prolong recovery after anesthesia so it's better to avoid it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin
