Can Beer Be Consumed While On Ativan?

Hi, I just got back from the er, they gave me an injection of ativan about 3 hours ago, this was full well after telling them I m an alcoholic who has to drink every night. I know there are interactions between ativan and alcohol, but I was wondering if just one beer would be okay or should I attempt cold turkey, I know this is a stupid question to even ask, but if I can avoid insomnia by drinking a beer I think it would help, the doctors office said it was fine and I said thank you but that I was just worried, to which she replied if you re worried then don t do it. Thank you

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Alcohol can increase the nervous system side effects of Lorazepam such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with Lorazepam.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
