Can Being Hit On The Face Cause Concussion?

After being hit in the face or falling on his face, my friend told police and myself of a home invasion reporting that a number of people had been there and extortion was a factor in the attack. He doesn't remember now exactly what happened and wondered if he may have a concussion. Is this possible?
