Can Bronchitis Cause Shoulder Blade Pain?

Good evening, I have shoulder pain that seems to be under my shoulder blade. It s getting so bad I can t sleep. It came on all of a sudden. I have tried topical lidocaine and take baclofen and neurautin on a regular basis. I hoped that would help. I haven t gone to doc because I don t want to waste money if its just a pulled muscle. I now have a cough. Could it be some sort of bronchitis starting that could cause severe shoulder pain?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Severe cough can cause shoulder pain if the lining of the lung is involved and there is irritation of the nerves, but not the other way around- shoulder pain does not usually cause cough or precede cough.

The 2 may not be related.

The pain in the shoulder may be related to the muscles or joints or other soft tissue in the area.
You may want to try to add an anti inflammatory pain medication along with topical aid such voltaren gel.

Anti inflammatory pain medication includes medications such as naproxen, ibuprofen or cataflam.
A warm compress for 10 to 15 mins , two to three times daily would also help as well.

I hope this helps
