Hello,
Brown discharge seen on and off with a background history of irregular periods, is generally observed in hormone imbalances, and is due to the occurrence of the breakthrough bleeding. This is often seen in polycystic ovaries. Pregnancy can happen occasionally in such instances, and you can get it confirmed/excluded through an assessment of the serum beta-hCG titres. If negative, you can see a specialist for proper investigation after a clinical evaluation. A course of hormones followed by appropriate therapy helps solve the issue. Take care.
