Can Brown Discharge And Blood Spots Symptoms For Pregnancy?

My girlfriend and I had sex two weeks ago. She is on the pill and takes it on time and we used I used a condom. Her period was supposed to start 3 days ago and in stead of her regular period she has been having brown spotted clumps and a small amount of blood. Should we be concerned about her being pregnant?

Hi,

The possibility of pregnancy is less in your case, as there is history of usage of regular hormonal contraceptives and barrier method. Irregular spotting is one of the side effects of hormonal pills. So, that could be one possible cause for spotting. As there is around 3 to 5% failure rate for these contraceptive methods, better to go for a urine pregnancy test once to rule out the possibility of pregnancy.

If the test gives a negative result, she can continue the pills as per the schedule irrespective of withdrawal bleeding to continue the contraceptive efficacy.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
