Can Bumps On The Gum Of A Tobacco Addict Indicate Oral Cancer?

hello, I have a bump, same color as the flesh inside of my mouth.... on the lower left side of my gum line. it s approximately where my wisdom tooth was years ago. it is hard to the touch and quite painful. I am a tobacco chewer for about 10 years. I am 37 years old, male..... could it be oral cancer? an infection? it s pretty scary to me and I m hoping to find an answer or ideas as to what s going on!!??

Hi.
Welcome to HCM..

As per your complain a hard bump on the lower gum line that is painful and lies in location where there was wisdom tooth present can be due to causes like a Mandibular Tori that can be formed due to nodular overgrowth of the bone and is a harmless condition..
Commonly cancerous tumours are not initially painful so chances are less..
I would however suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like x ray and if not a tori then a biopsy can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
If it is painful you can apply a numbing gel over it but do not touch it again and again..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
