Can Cataract Surgery Trigger Trigeminal Neuralgia?

My Aunt who is 65 had cataract surgery 4 months ago. First eye went great. The second eye was doing ok but for the last 2 months pain has increased to unbearable. She saw her surgeon today that says he thinks she has trigeminal neuralgia. She has extremely dry eye and has to use artificial tears or pain is extremely bad. She is very discouraged. Could cataract surgery trigger trigeminal neuralgia?

Hello,

No. I don't think so. If the pain has got worse than it would be better to consult her treating doctor for probably further evaluation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Jolanda Nikolla, Pulmonologist
