Can Chapped Lips And Dryness Around Them Indicate Some Form Of Dermatitis?

for the past 4 months my lips have become increasingly chapped - not just the lips but also the area around the edge of the lips. I've never had a problem before even in the winter months. I drink between 40 and 60 oz of water a day. The raw area around my lips almost feels like a burning sensation when I apply balm. Could this be simply a type of dermatisis?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Your symptoms are probably due to perioral dermatitis..
It is an eczematous Allergic reaction that occurs due to causes like bacterial infections, use of fluoride containing tooth paste, use of steroid creams and ointment, hormonal imbalance etc..

So for confirmation it is better to get clinical examination done..

You can be advised to apply Metronidazole containing creams, take oral Erythromycin, avoid harsh chemical cosmetics and steroid ointments..
Apply thick coat of petroleum jelly over lips..
Do cool compresses..
Use gel based sunscreen lotion..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
