Can Chikungunya Cause Irregular Menstruation?

Hi. I have regular period (28 days). This is the first time it has been 5 days late and I am 100% sure I am not pregnant. I had a c-section about a year ago and this past days I feel like the scar and the surface around it is numb and hurts sometimes (not that painful though). I had Chikunguya last week and took Acetaminophen for 3 days. Could the chinkuguya affect my menstrual cycle or something else? Thank you!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Chikungunya is an infection caused by the chikungunya virus. There is sudden onset of fever two to four days after exposure and is accompanied by joint pains, which typically last weeks or months.
Chikungunya is not known to cause menstrual disturbances.
Your delay in periods could have been caused due to stress caused due to fever. However, kindly rule out pregnancy by getting your urine tested for pregnancy by using the pregnancy kit. If it is negative, you can relax and wait for periods to happen.
Hope the information provided is clear.
All the best.
