Can Chlamydia Be Transmitted Without Sexual Contact?
Can chlamydia pass it on other then a sexual way? For example from swimming pool or somewhere else? Is it possible the bacteria stay hidden for 1 year and then show symptoms? Or if i have sympomps then usually shows within 30 days. I had chlamydia check up a year ago an was negative, before I met my boyfriend I only had one more sexual partner. As far as I know we were both faithful to each other with my boyfriend that’s why the only possibility that I see is that we got it, or one of us got it in the swimming pool which we actually went 3 weeks prior to any shymptons shown. Regards
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Chlamydia infection can be transmitted even if you do not have penetrative sex, it can be spread if your genitals come in contact with an infected persons genital fluids. However you cannot get chlamydia by kissing, touching hands or swimming pool/dirty toilet. Chlamydia is spread from person to person during unprotected sex. Both of you should get STD tests done to get treated. Avoid sex for a couple of days. In the meantime take Azithromycin or Cefixime.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
