Can Cholesterol Levels Be Controlled By Proper Diet And Exercises?

My wife total cholesterol reading was 395mg / dl. so the doctor prescribed statix f. Later the reading was checked twice in 15 days and the cholesterol reading was normal to 245 mg /dl. Doctor still recommended to continue Statix F saying it is beneficial for the valves to be free. Can you please advice if it can be stopped if diet is fully controlled and exercise is done. Thanks & regards Joseph YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query. Your wife's cholesterol is was very high. In such case statin therapy is needed. Diet alone won't work. 245 is still high. If it come below 200 then she can reduce the dosage of statin. Also check her thyroid profile. Usually ladies get high cholesterol in young age due to hypothyroidism. If it is that then thyroxine supplementation will normalize the cholesterol levels.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
