Infectious Diseases Specialist, Dr. Praveen G's Response
Hello, Welcome to HCM,
The rabies is 100% fatal but it is 100% preventable by proper and adequate treatment. As you were bit by a stray dog for which you have taken two doses of antirabies vaccine. You need to take five doses of antirabies vaccine according to WHO recommendations.
Usually we will advise the dog bite victims not to consume alcohol and to smoke cigarette as it may hamper the immune system to produce the protective antibody titers.
Rabies virus neutralizing antibody titers (RVnab) will produced in response to the antirabies vaccine to fight against the rabies virus. The alcohol consumption will decrease the ability of the immune system to produce the protective antibody titers.
I would suggest not to consume alcohol and to smoke during the course of treatment. Thank you.
