Can Cough Syrups And Medication Taken Before Knowing About My Pregnancy Cause Harm To My Baby?
Im 8 weeks pregnant, but before i’ve learned im pregnant i suffer cough allergy and running nose, so i take vick 44 plus syrup and robitussin DM syrup , but its not affective , so i take mucobron forte 3 x a day for 5 days , and citirizine 1 tablet a day for 10 days , does it effect my pregnancy , i didnt go to a doctor yet because im scared.now im experciencing dark brown spotting for 6 days, but i didnt any pain .
Ideally, medicines are not recommended to be taken during pregnancy. Mucobron contains carbocisteine, it should not be taken in the first trimester. Antihistamine is considered safe in pregnancy, but it is better to avoid taking it. Since you are getting dark brown spotting for 6 days, you are advised to be at rest and avoid sexual activity of any kind.
Get examined by a gynecologist, get required blood tests and genetic testing done to determine any adverse effects or teratogenic effects on the fetus due to the medicines taken.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
