Can Damage Occur If A Tear In A Tendon Is Left Untreated?

I am a 48 year old female with rheumatoid arthritis. I have a partial tear of the achilles tendon which occurred on October 7. I am now in an ortho boot with wedges. I have a large gap in the tendon which has been there since the day of the injury. For seven days after the injury the only advice I was given was to be careful when I was walking and use ice for pain if I wanted. I was given nothing to stabalize the ankle or put my foot in plantar position. Could there now be additional damage as a result of being left untreated for seven days?
