Can Dehydration Leads To Smelly Pants Before Urination?

Hi, I am a 13-year-old female and am experiencing something... confusing. I have this weird, musty smell when I pull down my pants to go to the bathroom recently, and I thought it was vaginal at first. Well, turns out, it s my pee. My urethra has little itches occasionally, but no burning when I pee and nothing painful or unbearably itchy. I hear it might be dehydration, and I don t drink a lot at all (I have postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome). Is it probably just dehydration?

Hi,

Your symptoms are indicative for possible:
- urinary tract infection (smell, itching urethra)
- genital infection (thrush)

I suggest to run urine analysis and vaginal swab testing to determine the right cause (if infection is present). Depending on the results, specific treatment will be prescribed.

If no infection, then, it might be related to dehydration (highly concentrated urine). I advise to:
- increase water intake
- avoid carbonated/coffee/energetic drinks
- do wear cotton panties
- wash your genitalia after passing urine with water and chamomile tea at the end
- avoid salty foods/drinks
- take urine alkalinizers (or antacids) you can find as over the counter

Hope it helped!
