Can Deliberate Pressure On The Carotid Arteries Leading To A Fainting Spell Cause Brain Damage?

My classmates do this thing that they squeeze their carotid arteries for like 15 seconds and hold their breath at the same time after which they seem to lose their consciousness and become numb for a few seconds. How dangerous is it? Can it damage the brain?
