Can Depression Be Treated With A Non Sedating Antidepressant?

i am new post graduate trainee in surgery and im an old fellow of depression ,took tab acetalopram 10 mg od for my disease for last 3 years advised by aconsultant.........it produces lot of sleep of at least 8 hrs for which i m nt able to do my duties properly......plz suggest totally non sedating antideoressant

Hello thanks for asking from HCM

There are a number of anti-depressants that don't cause sedation as side effect. Though Escitalopram also cause insomnia in a lot of individuals taking it, while in some it cause increased sleep. Other drugs like Fluoxetine which is also a SSRI cause no sedation and will not result in day time drowsiness. Bupropion is also an anti-depressant that don't cause sedation. You can consult your psychiatrist for these medicines and they will not hamper the duties.
