Can Diabetes Cause Excessive Hunger And Starving Feeling?

I m a 50 yr old woman with diabetes for 25 years. My sugar a1c is a 9. And levels are pretty much under control. But for the past month it seems I m starving. I lost 25 lbs in 1 month with no dietary changes or exercise and still losing little by little over the months. My stomach will be fine when I m done eating but half hour laterr it feels like I haven t ate for days. So much so that it hurts.

Hello,

Diabetes may cause increased hunger if the levels are not well controlled. In your case, the HbA1C is 9, which is way above 7, the recommended upper level in case of diabetes. This you will definitely need good control of diabetes.
On the other hand, the thyroid may also cause hunger and weight loss as it is happening in your case. I would recommend you to also check TSH and FT4 to rule out thyroid problems.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
