Can Diabetic Neuropathy Affect The Tongue And Taste Buds?
I am a type 2 diabetic related to ageent orange exposure in Viet Nam in the 60s. I have neuropathy in my feet and hands and was wondering if it can affect the tongue and taste buds? Anything I eat no matter how mild always makes my toungue and mouth feel like AI just ate peppers. Any ideas what might be causing this??
The type 2 diabetes you have developed might have caused neuropathy affecting the majority of your body nerves, including tongue and taste buds.
However, I advise to run further tests to rule out other pathologies before confirming neuropathy of tongue and taste buds: - GERD (pH study) - mouth thrush (mouth swab culture for candida) - physical examination of oral cavity and throat by ENT specialist - brain problems (ct-scan of head)
