Can Ears Be Pierced While Taking Warfarin?

Hi! My name is Mary. I would like to know if I can get my ears re-pierced (the holes in them from piercing 40 years ago have closed-up) while taking 7.5 mg of Warfarin 4 days a week and 10 mg of Warfarin on the other 3 days. I don t mind a little bleeding; I just want to know if it safe to have this done. Thank you.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is better to stop warfarin for three days prior to ear piercing, otherwise, it can result in torrential bleeding.

Consult a cardiologist and he will explain the risk and benefits of stopping warfarin.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
