Can Elevated Cholesterol Levels Cause Nose Bleeds?

I am a 50 year old woman who exercises regularly, watches my weight and eats right. Recently I have been having severe nosebleeds 1 - 2x a day. Very difficult to control. I just found out my cholesterol is 294, HDL 93, and LDL 180. I just wondered if there is a connection.

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, your symptoms don't seem to be related to the cholesterol levels.

Have you measured your blood pressure during these episodes?

A high blood pressure or a coagulation disorder could cause severe and frequent nosebleeds.

I advise you to closely monitor your blood pressure frequently during the day.

I would also recommend consulting with your GP for a careful physical examination, a routine blood test, kidney and liver function tests, thyroid hormone levels, blood electrolyte and coagulation tests to establish a possible cause.

Hope to have been helpful!

Greetings! Dr. Iliri
