Can Emergency Contraceptive Pill Keflex Render Yasmine Ineffective?

Hello. I am a 36 year old female. I have been taking Yasmine for years...never miss my pills. Was prescribed Keflex three days ago. Have been taking 1500 mg per day as of three days ago. Will be taking keflex for one week to clear up an infection in my belly button. Will the keflex make the yasmine ineffective?

Hi

Keflex contains cephalexin which is cephalosporin group of antibiotic used in the treatment of bacterial infections.

Hormonal pills are not affected by cephalosporin antibiotics and can be continued as per your regular schedule.

Rifampicin and related antibiotics used in the treatment of tuberculosis affects the metabolism of hormonal pills by reducing their efficacy and causing failure of drugs and increasing the risk of pregnancy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards
