Can Enlarged Spleen Cause Chest Heaviness, Lower Back Pain, Headache And Lowered Platelet Count ?

my daughter has had an enlarged spleen for 5 weeks. St. Jude is now involved. She is having different issues right now. She is having chest heaviness, bad lower back pain, and bad headache. Her platelets are 90 and her spleen measures 15.8 x 13.5. Can these symptoms she is having now be a sign that her spleen maybe starting to rupture.

Hi,

An enlarged spleen can cause fullness in abdomen, anemia and low platelet count. Anemia can cause headache and fatigue. Enlarged spleens are more liable to rupture, but it cannot be predicted if she will have a ruptured spleen or not. Usually spleen of size 11 to 20 cm in the longest dimension is classified as moderate splenomegaly. It is considered severe only if the longest dimension is more than 20 cm. So I think you need not worry about rupture of spleen. Just keep in touch with her doctors and follow all instructions that she has been given.

Best wishes.
