Can Eye Problems Be Genetical?

my sister has been on cylindrical lenses since last two years.she is 11 yrs old now.my great grand mother has had her eyesight weak since she was a child n by the time she was 60 yrs old,she had lost her eyesight.i wanted to ask that in the case of my sister...is it hereditary,genetical or what???will the same happen to her as my great grand mother?

myopia and cylindrical defect are heriditary. some time children get similar defect. but there is nothing that one will loose eye sight timely refraction correction with specs and alternative contact lens and refractive surgery are available.
