Can Fungus Stop Nail Growth?
My big toenail seems to have stopped growing. I usually get pedicures and I noticed that no growth had taken place on my left big toenail and all of my other toenails had grown out from where the nail polish meets the cuticle. After taking off the nail polish, the toenail looked a little yellow in color compared to my other toenail. Could a fungus cause the nail not to grow? I have not had any trauma to the toenail that I am aware of. Any suggestions on something to put on the nail in case there is some kind of fungus? Do you think the nail will start growing again?

At first the infection is usually painless. The nail may look thickened and discoloured (often a greeny-yellow colour). Commonly, this is all that occurs and it often causes no other symptoms. Sometimes the infection becomes worse. White or yellow patches may appear where the nail has come away from the skin under the nail (the nailbed). Sometimes the whole nail comes away. The nail may become soft and crumble. Bits of nail may fall off. The skin next to the nail may be inflamed or scaly. If left untreated, the infection may eventually destroy the nail and the nailbed, and may become painful.
