Can Gaps Between Sexual Intercourse Make It Painful?

i had sex four times in my life. there was a gap of 2 months b/w 1st and second time.first time it was a failure and second time it did get successful but to a very little extent. then i had sex after a one and a half year and it was painful but not like first time and not successful then i had sex after gap of four months and again it was painful and not successful. can gap b/w the sexual intercourses can help in making it like the first time?
