Can Gastric Reflux Cause Sore Throat And Bad Nasal Odor?

For a long time I have been smelling things that are not there such as bleach, ash, mould and smoke. I have had a camera in my nose and have been told it s my own perception being distorted. I have gastric reflux and allergy to mould. I constantly wheeze and have a slight soreness at the back of my throat. Could this just be due to gastric reflux? Or should I seek further tests? I have no polyp or sinus infection. I wonder if I do have a fungal infection in my body though.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that the tendency to smell that is not actually resent comes under a condition known as PHANTOSMIA..
Phantosmia leading to perception of smell in the nose of a person that is not actually present..
In case if it is not due to nasal infection,polyp or sinusitis, it can be due to other causes that can be related to central nervous system like Epilepsy,Alzimer's disease, head injury, stroke etc..
At times it is without any cause..
It generally resolves on its own without any specific treatment..
As of now you can do saline nasal irrigation and steam inhalation..
Use a steroid nasal spray..

In case if you do not feel improvement in a week consult a Neurophysician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical examination and investigations like MRI, CT Scan can be advised along with blood tests..
Treating the underlying cause will resolve the symptoms..
You can also be advised sedatives and anti epileptics..
