Can Grapefruit Juice Be Taken While Having Lipitor With Some Time Gap?

Hi Dr. Rynne, I understand that I cannot take Grapefruit juice while taking Lipitor. However, is there a certain time interval that I can drink or eat Grapefruit? For example, if I take Lipitor in the morning, can I eat Grapefruit in the evening? Thanks, jt

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. I understand your concerns.
I dont recommend taking grapefruit at all since it causes elevation of certain enzymes in liver which will make Lipitor musch less efficient then normally. It doesnt depends on exact period of the day since lipitor is present for more than 24 hours and grapefruit has effect even more than this. So you should not take the risk.
